Ever since studying 17th-century Dutch painting, I've been obsessed with the still lifes of Pieter Claesz. After seeing them displayed both at the National Gallery in DC and the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem alongside the actual objects, I wanted to find good reproductions of the types of glassware in these images. For some reason the most faithful reproductions just didn't look right. Maybe the answer is revival, or inspired, glassware?While I was putzing around looking at John Derian's work (which brings up some issues that I'll get to in another post), I found Juliksa Glassware. Their tagline is, "possibly the most beautiful tableware in the world," and you know, I think I agree. I've pictured only one collection here, but there are quite a few that are unabashedly historically informed. The creators also have a sense of humor.
