politically incorrect search terms

I spend an undisclosed amount of time browsing etsy. I still haven't figured out the best way to weed through so much stuff, or how to find the neat things I'm looking for. Somehow (a few weeks ago) I came across these "Chinoiserie Silhouettes," and I want them. Instead of buying them, I used some politically incorrect search terms to find a handful of related items.

See also, buttons, box, chair, and print. I think I need a little more Chinoiserie in my life. Noel? Are you reading this? (p.s. where is your blog?)

well said, fortune cookie.

omg

Um. I want this. Thanks, Abby.
Once again it is time (or was) to check out American Antiques in New York. I wasn't as involved this year, but I went to a few auctions, shows, and events. (My) highlights include:

A bit of the Christie's auction. Notable stool sold. Apparently its mate sold for 5 million last year-ish?

The American Antiques Show. Got to see Skip and his booth, and get a hug.

Society of Winterthur Fellows meeting. Soon to have new website. Once again was reminded that I did not get a class trip to London.

Winter Antiques Show wasn't that great until I got to sit in the most amazing chair at the Associated Artists LLC booth. The guy was so nice! Oh, and we saw Yoko Ono.

narcissus tazetta

My fellow research assistant Suzanne gave me paperwhites. All of the plants in our apartment are under Alison's care, because I've proven really great at killing anything green. But, I put my bulbs in jars and their roots are coming out! They seem to be happy on my window sill, and we'll see what happens. Thanks, Suzanne!

Brooklyn Flea

Yesterday, Alison, Allison, and I went to the Brooklyn Flea in its current home at One Hanson Place. The building is beautiful inside, and I liked the market feel more than the summer set up on the school blacktop. I bargained down a little dried flower picture - not sure where it will go yet. Boy, do I love to make a deal. I also bought myself a hot cider which was pretty delicious. The downside was that the place was amazingly crowded (though it wasn't so bad to be crushed up against the many cute boys there...). Perhaps next time I'll try for 10am on the dot? Anyone?

In Business

Okay, I'm totally doing this.

I love the sound and feel of thin porcelain softly clicking. Glass is beautiful, but I haven't discovered another sound so satisfying and comforting as this. I'm beginning to understand my mother's porcelain addiction.

Check out the wallpaper. I wonder where this was taken... Plus my grandparents are a scream.

old bird

These were on our Christmas tree, and we didn't want to put them away. So now they live in the entryway! One step closer to taxidermy, folks. If it was more affordable... Anyway, I've got some other project ideas going on: let's see if I ever get to them. Stay tuned.

from M&D

My parents give good gifts. I love watching my father get so excited about the things he's finding for my mother throughout the year. This year especially showed how well they know me, and what I like. My loot included a ceramic gin label, for my favorite beverage, and a little ambrotype. A little girl is pictured wearing a headdress of some sort. I'm going to have to do a little research on this. The funny part is, that I almost bought this for myself in Cleveland (and my parents had no idea).

What makes you happy?

Maira Kalman made me happy today.
