Rosenborg Slot

One of my favorite places in Copenhagen was Rosenborg Slot (or Castle). Guided tours are optional: visitors are welcome to wander inside and out on their own. There isn't much in the way of labels, but it makes for a better experience - and you can learn about a lot of the objects on their website. You can even go through the castle room by room, virtually.

My two favorite rooms were the Mirror Cabinet

and the Glass Cabinet.

The rooms were filled with paintings, cases of objects, and tons of things I've never seen before. Like giant silver lions and objects decorated with amber and skulls. It was a wonderful mix of the beautiful and weird. You can also visit the treasury to see the super impressive crown jewels. The building is rather small, for a castle, but visitors have access to almost every room so it felt quite vast. There was so much to see, I'd love to go back. Don't miss it if you're in town!
